Registration Steps - New Officials

*** New for the 2025 - 26 Hockey Season ***

DCHOA will only be accepting new members who are 14 years old as of November 1, 2025.

Each year, officials must complete the registration process for each of the national and state governing bodies that they wish to be eligible to officiate games for. Below are the details of the registration processes for each of these governing bodies.

USA Hockey - National Governing Body - Youth and Adult Hockey
- WHOA - Wisconsin Hockey Officials Association - USA Hockey State Affiliate
WIAA - State Governing Body - High School Hockey Officials
DCHOA - Dane County Hockey Officials Association - Local Officials Organization

USA Hockey

To officiate USA Hockey games, you must register with USA Hockey each season.

2025-26 Season USA Hockey registration overview:

Register as an official at the USA Hockey Membership Page
Attend a USA Hockey Virtual Classroom Seminar
Complete Online Education Video Modules
Complete Online Playing Rules Exercise
Complete SafeSport Training online (2008 birth year or older)
Complete a USA Hockey background check (18 years old or older on May 1, 2025)

Official's registration ends on November 20, 2025

If you register late in the season, make sure that you are prepared to complete all the registration requirements immediately.

All requirements must be complete by December 15, 2025

USA Hockey officiating registration expires December 1 each season.

WHOA

WIAA

To officiate High School games (WIAA), you must register with the WIAA. Note: The WIAA does not allow student officials for hockey.

If you are a new adult official and considering officiating high school games, please contact us.

2025-26 Season WIAA registration overview:

Follow the instructions on the WIAA web site.
Your WIAA registration status will be updated in the DCHOA web site within a few days. If your status is not updated, notify the DCHOA Registrar, who will confirm your WIAA registration status and update the DCHOA database.

WIAA games begin in late November. DCHOA starts WIAA game assigning in October. Make sure that you are registered with the WIAA before assigning begins.

To be assigned games by DCHOA, you must join DCHOA.

DCHOA will only be accepting new members who are 14 years old as of November 1, 2025.

New Members:

Use the Sign Up button at the top of page
Select Official from the list of options
Enter the contact information in the form - the email needs to be the primary email that the official will use for getting scheduling emails, and can not be already in the DCHOA scheduling database.
For minors, enter Parent/Guardian contact information. The Parent/Guardian email cannot be already in the DCHOA scheduling database
Enter the official's officiating information on the form
Read and agree to the DCHOA waivers and rules
Submit payment via the PayPal payment button. A PayPal account is not required. Payment can be by credit card or any payment method PayPal offers if you have a PayPal account.

After completing the registration form and payment, an account will be create for the official on the DCHOA Education site. For minors, an account will also be created for the Parent/Guardian if they do not already have an account.

When the official completes their USA Hockey (or WIAA) registration, the official's DCHOA scheduling account will be activated.

Returning Members:

DCHOA membership expires on December 1 each season. Membership renewal will be available this fall.
