From the President, August 2026

The season is ramping up and I can’t begin to explain how excited I am for this year. Earlier this summer, while planning for the upcoming season, an off-hand comment about doing something “forever” sparked my curiosity. Just how long has “forever” been for DCHOA? A quick check of our DCHOA Manual provided an exciting answer. The DCHOA Bylaws were adopted in October of 1976, making this season our 50th as an association. I shared my discovery with the Board, and we all agreed that this is a milestone worth celebrating.

I am extremely excited to be celebrating ‘DCHOA 50’ this season. It feels fitting that this milestone year arrived when it has. The initiatives we have undertaken this summer are rooted in the same core purpose that inspired the creation of DCHOA 50 years ago. They honor the traditions created by the legends of our association, thoughtfully updating them for today’s officials while creating new traditions built to last another 50 years.

To commemorate DCHOA 50, we have created the logo featured above and will be using it throughout the season on our website and in association communications. We have also ordered commemorative swag featuring the logo that will be distributed at various educational and social events throughout the year.

Speaking of social events, the Start of the Season Social Event is on Sunday, September 20 at McFarland Community Ice Arena. We have an hour of ice starting at 11:00 AM for some power skating, followed by a social gathering in the lobby until 1:30 PM. During the gathering, we’ll also be sharing two exciting announcements.

As we begin DCHOA’s 50th season, I hope you’ll join us in celebrating. I can’t wait to share this milestone year and kick off the season with all of you.

Thank you,
Adam Johnsen
