✅ Off-Ice Coaching for Experienced Officials

Building a strong foundation was just phase one. This season, DCHOA is growing its roster of off-ice coaches to provide more frequent coaching and feedback to a wider pool of officials across all of our games, not just those in their first season.

 

📋 How It Works

Pre-Game Support

Off-ice coaches meet with officials before their games. During pregame conversations, the coach asks about what the official is working on or areas of the game they'd like feedback on.

Off-Ice Observation

Off-ice coaches observe the game and take notes on areas for growth and improvement, while also highlighting where officials are excelling and continuing to show progress.

Post-Game Support

Off-ice coaches provide reflection points after the game and share their notes with the official, serving as an ongoing resource for growth in future games.

It's important to know what off-ice coaching is, and what it isn't. Off-ice coaches are here to help officials grow, not to evaluate or supervise. Coaching sessions are a supportive, low-pressure opportunity to get an outside perspective on your game, not a performance review.

No matter your level or years of experience, there's always something to refine in your game. All DCHOA officials are eligible to be coached throughout the season. Whether you're working on consistency, communication, or game management, off-ice coaching is here to support continued growth at every stage of your officiating career.
